Oxford, MS (FP) First it was the Rebel Mascot and now it’s the popular Ole Miss rally cry “Hotty Toddy” which is under fire.
The action group, Alcohol Free Education has a registered petition ongoing with plans to take their fight all the way to the Mississippi State Supreme Court.
Mary McMahan, President of the Organization says ” A Hotty Toddy is an alcoholic beverage, an entire fan base chanting about alcohol sets a terrible example for our children and even our college students.
Mississippi already has an alcoholism and gambling addiction problem so this is something that just adds to it on so many levels.” said McMahan. She went on to say “something fun and positive such as “Happy Whappy” could be a much better alternative or something of that nature that rhymes”.
The Ole Miss administration dropped their Colonel Reb mascot in 2010 after feeling pressure from several organizations. Don’t budge Rebels!
