SEC Referees Can Now Drink Wine at Halftime

Birmingham- The Commissioner’s office is relaxing SEC.Bylaw  (90.122.8L) which states no alcohol or tobacco use by officials during halftime of games. A recent study of NCAA Game Officials showed that the stress of being a College Football official is not only mentally stressful but also takes a physical toll.

Many SEC officials are so overwhelmed by screaming coaches and fans that by the midway point of a game some are driven to tears, said one SEC official’s assistant. This study stated that the consumption of a one ounce glass of red wine can help calm a person’s mind while triggering the brain’s frontal lobe to help make more rational decisions. The availability of a glass of wine at halftime for game officials will begin in the upcoming 2019 football season.

Several Wineries have expressed  interest in becoming The Official Wine of SEC Officiating  however the Commissioner’s office had no immediate plans of partnering with any wine companies.
